Can't turn off forum notifications

Hi,

I just renewed my membership yesterday, and now it seems I get an email for every forum post. I checked in the forum notifications, and emails are disabled for every forum. However, I keep getting the emails. Can somebody help?

Update, I figured it out:

I'm not sure why every boat needs a partner, so I just did a shadow email on my mailbox, and her email was getting all of the forum messages by default. I logged in to her profile and turned off her notifications, so that's solved.

But I have two questions:

1. Why does every account need a partner? Not everybody has a partner.

2. Why do new profile by default have subscriptions to every forum message enabled? Shouldn't they be off by default?

Every account does not NEED a partner. It is optional. However, if your spouse/partner wants voting privileges (say to vote for board members), to participate or vote in polls, or to register for an event (i.e., rendezvous) as a member, often at a reduced member rate rather than a guest rate, then they need to be recognized as a member and the only way for that to happen is if they have their own member associate account connected to the primary account.

Yes, we recommend not using the same email for both, but you can. You just have to set the forum preferences for both accounts, even though it is the same email address. You each may want to get emails or notices from different forums, etc. This is Club Express thing and we have no control over how they do things. We also hope to have a broader spectrum of forums to be of interest to different people. Recipes, provisioning, etc. We are always open to suggestions for making the site better within what we can do on Club Express. Mark has been great at asking for more control of things, and has worked with the developers to make many things happen, including the map. That continues...

I'm glad you were able to figure it out.

Hi Alec:

I'm sorry you were having trouble with the forum. The issue with requiring a spouse/partner was a configuration error. It was actually helpful in encouraging people to sign up their spouse/partners for accounts, but it did occasionally generate confusion and/or angst with people who either didn't have a partner or didn't want to register them for an account. That configuration setting has been fixed, so you should no longer be required to setup a spouse/partner account.

As a sad side-effect of the requirement for a spouse/partner account, some people setup a second account, but used the same email address. That caused even more issues because they would turn off email delivery from the forums in their own account, but not realize that they ALSO had to turn off the same emails in the spouse/partner account that used the same email address.

We have made an explicit choice to subscribe members automatically to the few main forums because it's both our primary way of getting information out to members and it encourages interaction.

Hope fully, with the requirement to setup a spouse/partner account removed, this will be less of an issue.
