Gotcha’ -
Lots of folks have dogs on boats and they are nice, but taking cats on boats is highly convenient and considered easier than traveling with dogs for international cruisers. Cats are self-sufficient, low maintenance, small, and adapt to life on board easily, especially when introduced to the sea as kittens.
Why a cat? Easier international customs requirements, no shore trips required, guilt free shore excursions for you as cats are happy (probably prefer) to be left alone, natural seafaring instincts are built in (great balance, never get seasick, easily secured in a “sea berth” when it gets rough), and they eat and p**p less than people and dogs.
Have I got a deal for you! We took care of a stray black and white cat this past horrible winter while we stayed home for new knees, a new boat, saving money, etc. We fed and cared for her through it all. She repaid us with five beautiful kittens in June and we now have grandcats to worry about. They are cute, cuddly, friendly to the guy or gal who feeds them, and ready to move aboard. The one we have kept inside for the last few days due to needing a vet visit hit 100% on the cat box score so far, so the others will likely be easily trained.
If we were not such wanderers, we would stay home and garden, sail on the Rivah, smoke meat, ride motorcycles on the twisties and sit on the dock. But we are outa’ here in two weeks for the South China Sea aboard new Shangri-La for a while and need your help.
Will deliver to Rendezvous or nearby Virginia or Maryland locations. See the photos and fall in love.
You need a cat on your Selene!
