On Tuesday SMOG 1, my Runaway Scrambler 1200X, crated and bound for far away places, departed our shack here at The Rivah. She will travel around the globe on a cargo ship and be offloaded to become ship’s stores on Shangri-La 6047 in Hong Kong without ever touching the asphalt in order to avoid the hefty duties, taxes, registration and licensing fees I would have to pay there. SMOG 1 will be transshipped aboard Shangri-La to Subic Bay Yacht Club on the island of Luzon in the Philippines where we will make our home base for many months to come. There I will pay the lesser duty and licensing fees enabling me to ride legally anywhere in the Philippines that Brian Calvert wants to go, and maybe some places he doesn’t. I have up to a year to enjoy the Philippines before I have to move on.

SMOG 2, my Antique America, and I are ready and waiting to ride with you guys on the back roads of the Northern Neck. Brother Captain America Roger can attest to the quality of the twisties down here in Rivah country - Good asphalt, great scenery, very little traffic and good stops for burgers, beer, music and more.

I have attached a couple photos of crated SMOG 1 on her day of departure. Also one showing SMOG 2 and me ready to roll. Come on down before Terry and I depart for Baltimore Rendezvous, and then off to Hong Kong and the South China Sea at the end of September.

Final note - Our SMOG attire should all finally be in late next week. I will get yours to you ASAP.

Take her easy - Easy Ridin’ Jack

Jack Burgess, Shangri-La 6047

I can attest … roads down on the Norther Neck are top rated motorcycle quality.  The beer is cheap and cold, the food is down right home cooking … and the company/tour guide is alright.

Hoping to join ERJ in the PI and put some miles in the log book, both on Shangri-La and the back roads.
