I'm going to shamelessly plug by blog "Painting Untethered in Rio Dulce, Guatemala".

Untethered is in Rio Dulce Guatemala getting painted from stem to stern, top to bottom. I started a blog tonight about the process. So far, it's just an intro, but here's a teaser:

OK Tom Sawyer. Now you are gonna try to convince us all that painting that fence (boat, house, dock, driveway, living room) is a fun experience that we should all view as an opportunity that absolutely can not be missed. I will read it and I am sure you will make me smile. But I want to be the guy sitting with you (and maybe the real Tom in spirit) in the shade with a cool lemonade in my hand much of the time, watching others work. Sort of like my packing a 40 foot container with our “boat stuff” for shipment to Hong Kong history - Really great when you are done.

I agree with your sentiment expressed regarding the attraction of moving on from the east coast migration mentality. We have absolutely loved our travels from New England to the Eastern Caribbean and could “rinse and repeat” for a long time. But this world is a big place. As the Kingsmen sang in Louie Louie, Baby, we gotta go . . .

Hi Rob,

I'll cover your answer in more detail in future blog posts, but here's the short answer. We are staying at a small casita that is owned by the general manager at RAM. It's $700/mo plus electric (~$100/mo). I will post pictures on the blog, but it's probably 500 sq-ft of an open kitchen/living/dining, separate bedroom, separate bathroom with modern appliances AND A/C (important!).

There is no one best location. Either you're on the side of the river where the yard is, or you're on the side of the river where the town and grocery store is. I ride into RAM with Karen, the GM (another benefit to renting her casita). Then I walk back about 2 miles across a bridge and through town. The roads in town are not bike friendly.

Karen speaks English, but most people only speak Spanish. That's created a barrier in social environments, but the professionals are fine using Google translate along with charades

BTW, RAM is getting booked up quickly.

Hi Richard - thanks for the info.

I've sent an email to your gmail address, I have been unable to get ahold of RAM. If you check email you'll see my note with our plans, it would be most helpful if you could let Karen know that we would like to bring our boat in and hopefully that opens up the communications between RAM and us.
