Hey Selene Friends:

This is a feature length documentary about the "Race 2 Alaska", which started in 2015. It's the craziest race ever. I've sailed to Hawaii from the west coast twice. That's tame compared to this race.

The cool thing about this documentary is that it gives you some pretty awesome footage of what the inside passage looks like. The race runs from Port Townsend Washington, up the inside passage, to Ketchikan, Alaska.

The 2026 race is currently on. In fact, a surveyor that recently surveyed a Selene is on a crew that is in 3rd place in the race (as of tonight).

Anyway.....the documentary is fun.

Maybe available in China? Alaska and PNW may be on our long distance horizon.

I am at a Hot Pot Restaurant in Zhuhai now, preparing for a shipyard visit starting tomorrow to dial in the final details of 6047 for local delivery in Hong Kong in September. Plan is to return then after final shipyard commissioning to complete my remaining projects at Lantau Marina in HK, outfit with a container of goodies (many of which are not legal in China) that I will ship over and just cruise away. We hope to spend some time in the Philippines with Brian Calvert (fair warning). Then we will work on luring some of you other owners to Asia for a minute. Lots to see and do here. Just might get  comfortable like Brian and stay.

Thanks for sharing Mark.... not only great scenery but a fantastik story as well. I'm shipping our Swan 40 to Port Washington, are you up for next years race?😉

Hi Tom:

Hmmm....I'm not familiar with a "Port Washington" up here. There's at least one on the Great Lakes.

I've watched that video a couple of times and some parts of it remind me of how much I enjoyed competitive sailing for many years (I just bought another small high-performance sailboat -- a J/70 -- to satiate my sailing habit). However, that race is pretty crazy. At some level, it makes the San Francisco to Hawaii race I did a couple of times seem tame!

You realize that in order to enter you would have to completely remove the engine from your boat? It's not just that you can't run the engine---you actually can't have one installed in the boat. My understanding is that you can have a generator as long as it has no means of offering propulsion.

I've done that inside passage many times in a Selene........but in a small, light sailboat. Crazy.

:-)

Ahhh....yes, brain worms, Port Townsend!  I'll pull out the engine to make room for another beer cooler. And, outside all the way!  Alas, maybe 40 years ago. Enjoy the J70!
