Any experience with staying at Staniel Cay Yacht C...

Hey Selene Family:

My daughter is trying to get us to go down to the Caribbean/Bahamas next January. We're looking at a couple of places (including Bitter End Yacht Club......I was there back in 1992!), but also Staniel Cay Yacht Club. We were at Staniel Cay on board Mystic Moon in 2011, but of course, we were staying on the boat. Just wondinering if any of you have experience with actually staying in the bungalows at SCYC?

Recommendations?

P.S.: Yes....I know.....I should bring Koinonia down and over that way. That would be awesome, but I would need to leave NOW. :-)

Mark,

I don't have any experience staying on shore at Staniel Cay. But (IMHO) you NEED to rent a skiff during your stay to see all that that area has to offer. There is a lot to do within a 30 skiff ride.

Richard:

One of the cool things about SCYC is that they include unlimited use of a 17' skiff with your rental (even including gas!). Totally agree. When we were there, we explored a lot on the dinghy.

Thanks for the feedback!

Mark

The folks at Selene Yachts Americas got a rental place at Staniel Cay.  You may want to ask them about the experience.  Richard

We've only stayed there once by boat but have anchored out on numerous occasions

When at the bar and I find someone not on a boat but staying the Club by land, I have never heard anything but good things. From the food, the bar and the surrounding waters they loved it and seemed to have plenty to do.

Not sure if all rooms etc come with a skiff but having one is a must to take advantage of what the surrounding area has to offer.

Based on what I hear I'd rate it 4 stars for sure....it is pricey though especially the bar

Mark, I have never stayed in the Staniel Cay bungalows. Only anchored nearby and had food/drinks there. That said, the two places barely compare. Bitter End is soooooooooooo much nicer than Staniel Cay. The bungalows there are super nice. Also nice right next door at Saba Rock. Staniel Cay is rustic

Mark,

Staniel Cay is a fantastic spot. The yacht club never disappoints, and they also rent small skiffs that are great for exploring the nearby islands and sandbars.

If you’re looking for something a little more upscale and relaxed nearby, about a mile north of Staniel is Fowl Cay Resort. It’s a beautiful property and, in my opinion, more comparable to Bitter End Yacht Club.

Another place worth considering is Harbour Island, just off Eleuthera. There’s plenty to do there, and I’d definitely recommend renting a golf cart since that’s the best way to get around the island. Pink sand, pastel cottages, and rooster traffic jams included. 🌴

Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions or want recommendations on places to stay, or explore.

First, Staniel Cay is NOT in the Caribbean nor are the Bahamas. You gotta go south for a minute to get to that particular Sea. The Bahamas, which I have visited 20 plus times in all seasons, are gorgeous, but too cold for my blood in January through April when everyone ups anchor and avoids the northers almost daily as we all look for new anchorages out of the wind which clocks incessantly. We also wear windbreakers every day during those months and swim with painful grins on our faces, pretending that the water is warm. And I can’t cast a fly to a bonefish in 20 plus knot headwinds that never cease, so those combined points seal the deal for us. Simply gorgeous on almost all days if comparing winter conditions to Park City, Utah. We still love Staniel Cay and it is a gem, providing fuel, services, dining and an adequate bar. An oasis for sure. Pick the shoulder seasons IMO.

Bitter End Yacht Club, which we have also visited dozens of times, having kept our first big boat, ADVOKAT, in STT for nine years, is in the real Caribbean. The Christmas Winds do make it down there occasionally, and it can get chilly in January - March. It was quite busy when we were through in March 2025. USVI was a better destination. St. John has some of the world’s best national parks (buy the pass) with great mooring fields for boats less than 60 feet, and good anchorages for boats 60 feet plus. St. Croix is old school and simply wonderful - too many good things to say in this post but should not be missed. STT is a mess as it has been for the 25 plus years we have been there, but we still love it! Would never miss STT and my many friends who live there. Maybe a light dose of NYC in the Caribbean.

Send me a personal note or call if you want more first hand info on the entire region. We have an addiction and know some places.
