Plus one to the ease of handling. Our 60 is orders of magnitude easier to handle than any other boat I’ve ever operated. Hydraulic thrusters and gobs of torque/bite from that big single screw make it super easy. I can take it on and off the dock without thrusters (on an easy day at least) and spin it in its boat length with that big articulated rudder. Not sure how a smaller Selene would be any easier unless you are wedging into a physically smaller space.

We bought our Selene 66 Mazu in 2022. Due to post covid scheduling issues we could not get a handover and had to leave Roses / Spain as "Selen Virgins". We have never ever been on a Selene before and started a cruise from Spain - Côte d'Azur - Corsica - Sardinia - Sicily - Puglia - Montenegro - Croatia - Slovenia to Trieste / Italy.

We enjoy Mazu as a couple and had no issues ever. We experienced several times rough conditions when we needed to dock in the middle of the night in a thunderstorm.

In direct comparison with many charter yachts we used in the preceding 20 years (working our way up from Ferretti 52 to Sunseeker 66 and Azimuth 62) we experienced this Selene 66 as a dramatically easier to handle boat.

The only thing we had to get used to was that Mazu behaved significantly different, because wind - even beam gusts up to 40 kts - would not affect her as massively as all the gliders, which were regularly blown sideways by bora gusts. However, current would affect Mazu much more in comparison. But in Marinas and anchorage's we usually do not encounter a lot of current while we had our fair share of gusty and wind situations. Once we even had to dock with a problem - the starboard gearbox would not deliver any thrust to the propellor while docking in Umag with 45 kts steady from port on our beam. Adrenaline was a little higher than normal, but the two of us managed to get in even without help from the marina staff. We actually have Mazu because my wife felt extremely safe and comfortable since day 1 using her.

It is however important to know that Mazu has a YachtController (remote) installed and that is definitely a huge advantage. It is worth the investment and makes handling this large boat extremely easy and reduces the stress level extremely.

We do not intend to sell Mazu for the next 2 to 3 years. But when we will it will not be because we can not cope with her.

The 60 is very suitable for just two . My wife and I are 83 and 80 years young still sailing without crew , apart from our little dog . 

In my opinion, a 60 would not be too much boat for 2 people to operate. All 60 owners I know a owner/operator couples with little to no assistance. However, with a bigger boat there are more restrictions on dockage and anchorages. But those differences are negligible between a 53 and 60.

Best wishes on your search. Selenes are great boats, but older ones are more hard to find since there were fewer built back in the day, and owners hold on to them.
