Flybridge & Cockpit Enclosure Idea’s please

Thank you Jenni! Great information

Canvas Supply also did the Bimini, dinghy cover, and settee covers, etc. on on our 43. They made the Bimini cover, and he didn’t like the way it fit (we didn’t really see anything wrong – but he did), so they redid the whole thing, no cost to us. They do great work.

That is great information Mark. Thank you so much for the details. I will go look at pictures now as well.

It is so nice to have a forum like this as resources. Thank you!

Thank you Phil! I appreciate the referral. That is not too far from our home marina as well.

HI Carolyn:

We have a very nice full enclosure both for our flybridge and our cockpit. We love them both as they make both spaces very useable in any weather. I can try to get some photos for you.

Canvas Supply in Seattle made it for us. I can't recommend them highly enough. They are excellent. Not fast. Not cheap. But excellent.

In answer to your specific question about the aft end of the flybridge, we have two full-height sliding panels that are 3/4 window--a bit of canvas at the bottom.  They slide on a plastic track at the top that works very well and the slide overlaps both sliding sections. we have a screen that goes in place of one of the sliding panels for ventilation. We also have screens for the two large windows on the side of the flybridge that can lift up an strap to the underside of the hardtop, so we can leave them completely open or put screens in their place.

We liked it so much that after about 14 years of owning the first set of canvas, it was getting a bit faded and the windows had some scratches and dull areas, so we had Canvas Supply make a full second set. Now we put the old/original canvas on in the winter time, when it takes the most beating with being wet a lot. Just before the spring Rendezvous, we take down the "winter" (old) canvas and put up the new stuff, so we get to enjoy nice new clear windows through the spring and summer seasons.

Our canvas has the much heavier semi-rigid windows. Canvas Supply calls it "EZ2CY", but I suspect it's pretty generic material. The heavier material does not roll up, but the windows are clearer and don't get the distortion of the lighter weight plastics that don't tend to stay nearly as flat with time.

You can see some photos of the canvas in our Summer 2025 cruising gallery on the owner's site.

Thank you so much David. We appreciate this!

Carolyn,

I will send you the pics I have so far of the enclosures we included in the FB (that include a sliding door on the rear side) as well as the cockpit (where we did both a sunscreen and a weather enclosure) in our nearly complete S54-118.

Will be taking a lot more pics at the yard in early November so can send you those as well in a couple of weeks.

David

Hi All

We are looking for idea’s, insights, pro’s and con’s for the rear panel of our flybridge enclosure and for a full cockpit enclosure. We have the flybridge enclosed with the hard rigid panels (not 100% sure of material at this point) on three sides. We are now researching how to close in the back behind the setee. We are debating configurations , rigid that slide to open up vs pliable to roll up, incorporate a screen for ventilation, vertical vs horizontal panels etc. We do have a sunscreen for this area but would like a transparent enclosure for view during cooler cruising seasons and for added living spaces. Any insight, pro's and cons and details you care to share are appreciated for the back panel and for full cockpit enclosures. Photo’s are appreciated to give us options. We are a Selene 55 on Vancouver Island so if you have preferred venders in the area please message or post here if allowed as well. Thank you in advance.
