I would use them for that. Just make sure you know what your cutlass configuration is going in. I have that Axiseal dripless seal and it uses a long FRP tube with both bearings installed in the tube. Its actually kind of efficient way to do it because its a like a cartridge replacement. Labor would have been a fraction if I knew that going in.

Good to know.  I will need to replace my main cutlass bearing, and when I do, I'm also considering doing the wet keel fix and installing new engine mounts and realign.  That's why I ask.

Hi Richard, They found the alignment was out 6thou vert and 10thou across. I understand its supposed to be 4th max. So I had them do it while I was already there and they had time. The got it to 1thou all around. The engine was also loaded heavy to the front left mount. He leveled all that out too. It does seem smoother. I had a vibration at around 1100 rpm that would go away about and below that. That seems to be gone. Even better though is I now know every inch of my davit and feel I can do anything I need on that. The wire replacement required a lot of disassembly and one very difficult to reach bolt that only Linda could reach to get back in but that also sounds better and works great. Turns out whoever replaced the rope last time put a part in up side down and it was dragging on the sheaves not allowing the rope to fall as easy. Everytime I would lower the hook to pick up the boat from the water it would slowly free fall another 3 or so feet to let all the slack out. Now it's perfect. Waiting quotes for new mounts just because they're 18 years old and the oil seal leak. We already plan to stop by on my way north next summer and we can have that work done at any of their locations that can lift us. I really like that flexibility.

Good to know, Joe.  How did the alignment turn out?  Did you have a vibration?  Did they do any adjustments?  How is is working so far?

Nothing but praise for Zimmerman Marine. As we were heading south and had some extra time. I wanted to get an main engine alignment check, evaluate the leak on my transmission and get my davit rope replaced.

We talked to Steve and setup a date. He met us at the dock and explained everything they would do and who would do it. The guys all showed up within the hour to get started and worked steady until they completed their tasks before jumping to the next job. The entire staff were friendly, polite and knowledgeable. It looked like we would be done in one day but, of course, that never works out. Despite best efforts a small delay kept us there over the weekend. We happily used the time to visit with our Selene family Paradigm Shift, Cross Roads, Slip Away and Anastasia.

Steve is rightfully concerned with the minor oil leak and brought up a good point when he said as we move south keep evaluating it and if it gets worse, call to get into one of their other yards further South to deal with it as well as we head North again in the spring. He said they all have access to the notes from Deltaville and can pick up with the repair if need be. That is very comforting given that we travel so many miles each year. So if you're looking for work on the East coast, be sure to, at least, give Zimmerman Marine a call to see what they can do for you. They're also sponsors of the East Coast Selene Owners rendezvous.
