Border Crossings
Author Last Post

Our experience is sometimes they ask, sometimes they don’t. Wait until they ask. Do not volunteer information. Have your list ready just in case. We had an agent on the phone once who said “did I ask you that?” after Jerry started reading our list of spirits. He said don’t say anything unless I ask about it.

I usually add a few partial bottles in the list to emphasize we are using it. We have heard about them rejecting the idea of bar stock, but it all depends on who you talk to. Every crossing is different, every agent has their own way, but we didn’t see any differences this year. When we crossed back into the US into AK last month it was just using the phone app, and we got our approval without talking to anyone. We do have Nexus, which makes it easier.

Bottom line – Our crossings this year so far were easy.

Same here - when Kathy and I crossed into, I used the phrase, "We have bar stock on board for personal use only."  That bar stock included 6 open bottles of 'spirits' and 24 bottles of wine.  They did not ask for specifics though.  When we came back to the US, they didn't even ask about alcohol.

Hi Mike:

I had the same question/concern when we crossed right after the Rendezvous in April. I noticed no difference from previous crossings. We had more wine on board than the import limit but I told them it was "ship's stores" and they didn't bat an eye at it. Crossing was super easy.

We'll be crossing back from Alaska around the end of July, so if anything changes, I'll post it here.

Crossed many times, more 100. Report as bar stock. Never asked how much. Just say for "personal consumption" if asked.

How have border crossings been going? US to Canada I'm especially concerned about the typical amount of "Captain's stock" for "personal consumption" I normally maintain.
