Russ, thanks sounds like a good idea.
We met a Kady Krogen 48 North Sea, Rincon Feliz, that just had their entire boat painted (hull and topsides) in Guatamala for $60k, which included several other things, like rebedding windows and refinishing the wood in the pilot house.
I saw the boat and it looked great. However, it takes a while so either you go back to the States or get an apartment in Guatamala.

We are also looking at going to Guatemala for a full repaint. Several Nordhavns have been done there with good results. Kirawa, a NH 62 did a full repaint 2 years ago and put a very detailed video on YouTube about costs, etc. Richard, maybe we can talk them into a Selene 2 for 1 special!

Wow, that looks like a nice photo!!!
As I recall, Dr. Peter Webster owned a Selene called Final Note or something like that a few years ago...and I recall he had an Ensenada Paint Job with mike results? You may want to reach out to him?

Richard -
If you are considering repainting, I suggest that you talk with Greg Downes at Peake Yacht Services in Chagauramas, Trinidad. He has become a friend to me.I have had PYS refit Shangri-La and they do great work. They build and paint boats. Our fellow Selener, Hugues Poirot, who lives in Saint Barth, Keeps his boat there in the inner harbor, has a boatyard there and a villa on French side of Saint Martin, had his boat Superman painted there (which he sold for purposes of buying the Selene) and may be having his Selene 60, Solarfox, painted there this fall.
We can talk about it at the Mini-Rendezvous if you like.
Best - Jack

John, was that just the hull, or the hull and topsides (white deck house) too?

I just had Felix prepped, sanded and painted for about 29K at Baja Naval in Ensenada. I felt the work was excellent.

Cap'n Lucky, I heard if you take your boat to China, Howard will give you a free fountain pen.
I'm considering taking Untethered to Guatamala where I think I can get it painted for about $60k.

Hi,
FYI: I really wanted to take Mystic Moon back to the yard for painting and other work when we were in the area in 2017/18. I don't remember the quote but there also was a $100k government bond on Mystic with no guarantee it would be refunded. Even Howard agreed it might be risky for an American boat.

Dear Captain Richard,
Personally, I enjoy seeing the patina of a well-used yacht that has been taken care of as it shows character...versus a yacht that looks like a waterfront condo.
Over the past 18 years, Ho'okipa has had at least 6 incidents that required patch/paint and they show more so than if we'd just left them alone or perhaps covered them up with something neutral like splash guard?
Anyhoo, Howard gave me a quote last week of a $100,000 USD to paint my boat plus I have to transport the boat to China and cover all my housing while there!!!

Thanks for your replies. You confirmed what I thought. My painter is having another batch mixed, and I'll know if it matches next week.

We are the normal two shades of Cook white gelcoat but our Cove Arrow stripe was painted at factory with Awlgrip Flag Blue #G5002
Could definitely be same as what some hulls were painted. Corey

Hi Richard, I only heard of it referred to as Flag Blue. I'm curious to see what others say.

Untethered is a 2005 57 with a dark blue hull. Unfortunately a sailboat dragged at anchor and put some scratches in my hull. Now the hull needs to be repaired.
What is the color that Selene used on the dark blue hulls that are common to our boats?
I had the hull repaired a few years ago by Atlantic Yacht Basin and they used Alcraft 2000 Flag Blue for the repair. I informed the painter doing the current repair that AYB used Awlcraft 2000 Flag Blue several years ago, and it matched perfectly. He had the paint mixed at a reputable paint shop in Morehead City, NC but it is much lighter than the existing paint - not a good match.
Now I'm second guessing what the paint color is. What color did Selene use in ~2005 on the dark blue hulls?
Thanks, Richard Untethered, 57-22
