We are officially part of the family (just like yo...

Memorial Day weekend marks our closing on the purchase of Blue Phoenix. We had a very unusual transaction, with Ken and Nancy keeping the boat from September 2024 at Trawlerfest all the way to delivery a few weeks ago in Wilmington NC. Ken wasn't ready to stop cruising (I'm not convinced he's ready still) and they had winter wonderland plans in the Keys and the Bahamas lasting until 2025.

We weren't ready to dash off to the boat, with job, kids, a working farm, employees. Heck, I needed a solution just to receive my mail and we'd done NOTHING to prepare our lives for our dream of living on a boat so we weren't in a hurry.

With such a drawn out purchase, we had occasion to visit Ken and Nancy in the Keys and get some time on the boat and to meet their friends. We also had many, many messages back and forth and have had occasion to become friends.

Much to Ken's dismay, the surveyor did find something to write up. ONE THING! Over a three day survey, plus a one day engine survey. Everyone we met said the boat was one of the cleanest boats they knew, its now official, unless someone out there has a boat with zero things wrong. I've never seen a boat with zero things wrong, ever.

Ken and Nancy moved off the boat last week and we began moving our stuff on. We plan to be full time onboard starting next month. When we showed up on our first moving day, we arrived to find some treats they'd left behind for us. Besides the boat being immaculate, a bottle of champaign awaited us on the dining table. But there was also an Easter egg. My first boat project, complete with blood and multiple trips out for parts was to replace a stainless steel manifold in the starboard lazarette. When I started that project I found everything helpfully labeled for me, as well as a hilarious sign (see attached) and a small bottle of tequila (also see attached) for my post maintenance work needs.

My intention in posting this message, besides publicly transitioning from future owners to current owners, is to publicly thank Ken and Nancy for being the wonderful stewards of Blue Phoenix and making a stressful, scary, major transaction smooth and enjoyable. I hope they are able to work their way into a new boat but in the mean time, don't be surprised if you see them on our boat in the Keys this winter.

Dan & Bethany:

Let me be the first (I'm probably not, actually) to welcome you to the Selene Family. It really is a wonderful family and you have a wonderful boat. (We are the owners of a Selene 59/60 that is just 3 hulls after yours--60-20). I'm currently sitting in the pilothouse looking out at the stunning scenery of Glacier Bay National Park in Southeast Alaska.

Roseanne and I plan to make it out to the East Coast Rendezvous, so I hope we'll have a chance to meet you in person then!

Welcome!

Congrats Dan and Bethany. Are you in Wilmington now? Would love to meet up. Anne Marie and I live in Wilmington. We just joined the Assn recently, as we expect to take delivery of Selene 54-118 in around 3 months or so. We saw her for the first time 3 months ago at the Zhuhai yard and eagerly await her delivery. We will also be at the East Coast Rendezvous so look forward to seeing you there if not before.

David, we are back and forth as we bring stuff down, deal with kids, finish up some other life items, etc. Our plan is to be down there this Wednesday for a day or two, then we have a trip to TN which was already on the books. Our full time on the boat date starts 9 June, Lord willing. We are at Port City Marina North of Wilmington. We'd love to have you stop by and get to meet you. I'll shoot you a DM, if I can figure out how, with my cell.

Congratulations Dan and Bethany!  Blue Phoenix is a beautiful vessel.  You are right that Ken and Nancy were good stewards, rising Blue Phoenix from the solitude of freshwater storage to what it is today.  We've had a lot of good times on and around Blue Phoenix.

We're sad to see Ken and Nancy step off Blue Phoenix, but we're happy you are now in the Selene family with both feet.

Kelly and I have been cruising from the Bahamas to Maine and I'm sure our paths will cross.  Please reach out to us if there is anything we can help with.

Congratulations on it becoming official, Bethany and Dan!

Interesting coincidence: We purchased Kallisto from Port City Marina where it was moored for two years. We spent our first three weeks of ownership living on her at the marina as we spent time learning her systems (while I continued to work full-time remotely). We fell in love with the Wilmington area during our brief stay. We were in Wrightsville Beach heading north less than two weeks ago!

Cindy and I look forward to seeing you cruising the Chesapeake Bay sometime soon!

Thank you Mark. Ken already told me I needed to pay attention to your posts and knowledge. That you were a wealth of information on the 59/60. I probably need to go back and study all your previous posts to stuff some wisdom into this brain. I do very much look forward to meeting you at the rendezvous.
